L5P

This is supposed to be the cool Atlanta neighborhood, with lots of people, bars, concerts...
Well, on sunday morning, when the temperature falls to 20F and the wind blows like that, only homeless people are here to get their lunch:

501 Auburn Avenue

Every city in America has a Martin Luther King Boulevard (or Avenue, Street, Drive, Place, etc...).

Atlanta is the only one which has its birthplace (at 501 Auburn Avenue), his grave nearby in the King center, and his former church, all this located in Sweet Auburn, Atlanta's historic black neighborhood.

Here you go, 8 days late:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
born on January, 15 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Murdered on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Squirrels II

Two weeks ago, while I was leaving to work, I witnessed a small drama on my building. A small squirrel was stuck on my neighbor balcony (3rd flour). He was standing near the edge of it looking down and making weird cries, something between a small bird and a dog! He managed to climb up there and forgot which way to go back, I did not know it could happen to squirrels... Downstairs, another squirrel was standing on top of my car, it was answering to the upstairs squirrel and sounded as panicked as his friend!

I drove to work and when I went back in the evening the squirrels were gone. I had no news till last week-end and I was very worried ;-) Did it jump and hurt itself? Did the downstairs cat take advantage of the situation?

Last week-end, I saw them on the trees behind the building facing my balcony. They look great and are as crazy as always. Here is a little of squirrel action, shots taken from my balcony at the 3rd flour.

Chasing each other and recklessly running on the branches. Jumping from branches to branches 20ft above ground. This guy is actually running on the "roof access branch", speeding to jump to the roof.

Trying to impress the girls by doing pushups upside down holding the tree trunk.
20 pushups, not even tired.

Playing hide and seek. Without the sun, it would be a great hiding sopt!

Finally, like a top model, taking the pose and letting me take a picture, my new desktop background...

Wreck

Georgia forest are full of surprises.

The rear of the car reminds me of Elvis' Cadillac. It has been here for a while, trees grew around it so it will not be possible to remove without cutting it into pieces. There is not many pieces left of this car, no wheels, no steering wheel, no trunk door, the only thing left under the hood is the engine...
The small rotten spots on the side are bullet marks. Who knows? I may be standing over the remains of a mob boss of the 1960's Atlanta...

Great Blue Heron

A great Blue Heron on the Chattahoochee River.
This bird is not easy to photograph, very suspicious. They usually fly away when I get too close and before I have the time to get my camera out of the bag. Here is a big one, I would say 4 to 5ft tall.

Best of 2004

Since one of the reason I have this blog is to post my pictures, here is my top 10 2004. My 10 favorites pictures I took in 2004. This not the ten best pictures in an artistic way, just the one I enjoy the most, the ones that when I looked at them I tell to myself "Damn, I have been there", or "damn I saw that stuff and I am still alive" (the rattlesnake), or damn "I did not know this was even possible before I saw it" (the kudzu) or damn that thing could eat me for lunch (the alligator). You can click on the pictures to see a larger version..

One picture taken in California (the snake), one picture in Nevada (the mountains w/o snow), one in Utah (mountains with snow), one in Florida (the river w/o rocks), three in Atlanta (the butterfly, the river with rocks and the small pond with pink/redish colors) and three in the rest of Georgia (the gator, the trees covered with Kudzu and the swamp).

When I look at those pictures I tell myself I am pretty lucky, some people live in and see this kind of stuff all year long - picture taken in the suburb of Paris by Chromogenic. You did not know Paris, the most romantic city in the world, the city of the lights, could look like that did you?

Anyways, besides Irak, besides Bush reelection, this year was pretty good for me after all! It is still good living in the US!
